How much maintenance does a typical water feature need?
You may be surprised to find out that it actually isn’t that much. For best results give an occassional clean and be sure to keep water levels up. A full flush and clean is suggested every 1 to 2 years. You can purchase handy water treatments that will keep your water clean and algae free for approx $5 per month.
How much water does a water feature use?
Most water features are very water efficient and utilise recycled water at all times. We understand how precious water can be in Australia so we wouldn’t promote a brand/product that isn’t water savy.
Do water features require a dedicated water supply/flow?
No, you can simply fill most water features with water and let the pump recycle the supply as needed. No dedicated tap connection is required. You will however need a dedicated power supply for the pump.
I had a really cool idea for an indoor water feature, is this possible?
Yes! There are both indoor and outdoor varieties of different water features. It is recommended that indoor water features are only used in fairly large spaces to allow for good air flow. When choosing an indoor water feature, pick one that is splash-free.
Are water features difficult to install?
Not really. You will usually require a few people to give you a hand given how heavy they can be but other than that installation is fairly straight forward. When you purchase a water feature it should come with plumbing fittings and a pump so you can just fill it with water, plug it in and turn it on.
How much does a quality pump cost?
Some water features come with pumps (usually the smaller ones) whilst some don’t. We recommend investing in a good quality pump which won’t break due to poor quality materials. Pump prices range from around $50 to $250.
Will the water feature attract mosquitoes
It depends, mozzies love still water so if you water feature is on the more subtle side then yes mozzies may love it. In saying that you can buy water treatments that will prevent them from laying eggs on the surface so it is a problem that is fairly easy to solve.
How many hours a day should I run the water feature?
It is best to keep it running all day if you can, it will assist with the lifespan of the pump. You can alternatively buy a timer so that the pump only turns on at certain times of the day.
How fast should I have the water circulate?
This really comes down to personal preference however we do recommend to keep water circulation slow so that the water has a calming effect. Not fast which can make the water appear like it is raging.
Should I pick a particular water feature colour?
It is entirely up to you! That is the good thing about water features, there are plenty of different varieties and designs to choose from. As red represents heat and fire, it is best avoided.
